What is R.I.S.E. Custer?

Recovery • Intervention • Support • Education

We're a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Custer County since 2017, dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by substance misuse and mental health challenges. As the only organization in the county offering a comprehensive approach, R.I.S.E. provides prevention education, crisis response, advocacy, and recovery navigation—meeting people where they are with compassionate, confidential support and real pathways forward.

Through crisis intervention, recovery guidance, limited emergency assistance, and community-based prevention programs, R.I.S.E. works to strengthen individuals, families, and the next generation. In partnership with local schools, churches, law enforcement, and healthcare providers, initiatives like Custer County RISE & Thrive help build resilience, reduce youth substance use, and foster a healthier, more hopeful future—because prevention today

protects tomorrow.

Crisis Support & Intervention

We connect individuals, families, and communities with resources that promote hope, healing, and recovery. Whether someone is facing an immediate crisis, seeking treatment for substance use, or looking for mental health support, our goal is to help people find the right services at the right time.

Support includes confidential crisis intervention, suicide prevention resources, referrals to higher levels of care, and connections to local mental health providers. We also help individuals navigate addiction treatment options, recovery programs, peer support services, and telehealth resources, making care more accessible for those living in rural communities.

When possible, assistance may also be available to help address barriers that can interfere with recovery, including transportation needs and advocacy related to housing stability.

In addition to connecting people with services, we are committed to prevention through education and community engagement. Our efforts include school-based prevention programs, youth initiatives, community education events, opioid awareness and overdose prevention, and evidence-based strategies that help individuals make informed, healthy choices before substance use becomes a crisis.

Our mission is to ensure that no one has to face addiction, mental health challenges, or recovery alone. By connecting people with trusted resources and strengthening community partnerships, we strive to build healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.

Investing in Our Youth

Strong communities begin with healthy, supported young people. Through partnerships with schools, churches, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other community organizations, R.I.S.E. works to strengthen protective factors, foster positive relationships, encourage school engagement, promote mental health awareness, and prevent substance use before it begins.
